Navigation

Master the map navigation controls to efficiently explore properties and locations.

Pan and Zoom

Navigate the map using familiar controls:

  • Pan - Click and drag anywhere on the map to move around.
  • Zoom with Mouse - Use your scroll wheel to zoom in and out.
  • Zoom with Buttons - Click the + and - buttons in the top-left corner.
  • Double-Click Zoom - Double-click anywhere on the map to zoom in to that location.
  • Pinch to Zoom - On touch devices, use two fingers to pinch and zoom.

Address Search

The search bar at the top of the map provides powerful location search capabilities:

  1. Click on the search bar or press the search icon.
  2. Start typing an address, city name, or place. Autocomplete suggestions will appear as you type.
  3. Select a suggestion from the dropdown, or press Enter to search.
  4. The map will automatically fly to the selected location and center it on the screen.

You can search for:

  • Full addresses (e.g., "123 Main St, Phoenix, AZ")
  • City names (e.g., "Austin, Texas")
  • Neighborhoods or districts
  • ZIP codes
  • Property names (if they exist in the database)

Fly-To Animation

When you select a location from search results or click on a property in the sidebar, the map uses a smooth "fly-to" animation to navigate to that location. This helps you maintain spatial context as you explore different areas.

Location Marker

When you search for a location or use the "Locate on Map" feature from Data Viz results, a pulsing marker appears at the target location. This marker:

  • Highlights the exact location you searched for
  • Pulses with a subtle animation to draw your attention
  • Automatically disappears after 10 seconds

Keyboard Shortcuts

Use keyboard shortcuts for faster navigation:

  • + or = - Zoom in
  • - - Zoom out
  • / - Focus the search bar
  • Esc - Clear selection or close panels

Tips for Efficient Navigation

  • Use search for large jumps - When moving between cities or distant locations, use the search bar instead of panning.
  • Zoom level matters - Some data layers (like FEMA Flood Zones) only appear at certain zoom levels. Zoom in to see more detail.
  • Sidebar navigation - Click on properties in the sidebar list to quickly jump to their locations on the map.
